Kathy Cano Murillo is a Mexican-American author, artist, and founder of the award-winning brand CraftyChica. She is also the author behind The Crafty Chica Creates! We asked her a few questions about her creative process.

Quarto Creates: How did you first become interested in crafting?

Kathy Cano-Murillo: I've always been creative and loved the feeling of making something and giving it to someone and them asking for more! I realized crafting was my super power!

QC: What is your advice for those who want to try it but aren’t sure where to start?

KC-M: Start with one genre that comes easy to you. Stay focused on it to build confidence and then add in other techniques. Release expectation, just creative to have fun and find your groove!

QC: What artists and crafters do you look to for inspiration?

KC-M: I adore Mark Montano, he is so talented!! I love everything he makes!

QC: What is the biggest challenge you face while working on a craft project?

KC-M: Sometimes it is the engineering part, but I always push through so I can learn. Even if there are tears, I finish and then review what confused me so I can do better next time.

QC: What is the most important lesson you’ve learned from creating?

KC-M: To create from my heart and my personality, to give everything my own spin to make it stand out, and to relax and have fun!
